They claim not to be, thus on the 9th of April 2011, ‘The Do̷‘ clearly mastered to bring an almost unprecedented still sweet craziness to the rather calm Grand Duchy, throwing an amazingly vivid performance in the Rockhal, in front of more people than we are used to see on concerts here.

How did they do̷ it?

It was all at the same time, it was the lights, it was the wide range of instruments (or items used as such), it was the dressed up front girl, it was the movements and a great mélange of songs.

Understatement für Fortgeschrittene, präsentiert von Sam Beam alias Iron and Wine.
Ein bärtiger Mann im nicht sonderlich gut sitzenden Anzug steht auf der Bühne, begleitet von nichts als seinen zwei Gitarren, vor ihm ein hochgradig andächtiges Publikum.

Der Künstler stimmt ein, die Gitarre in der Hand, macht von ihr jedoch zunächst keinen Gebrauch. Da steht er und singt, aus der Menge kein Geräusch, alle lauschen, vollkommene Stille. Es ist ganz klar eine Kunst für sich, das Publikum auf eine solch simple und unscheinbare Weise an sich zu binden.

Eine Explosion von elektronischer Musik

Leider konnte ich den Namen des Opener Djs nicht herausfinden, man kann jedoch sagen dass er ganz ordentlich versuchte die Leute ab 10 Uhr anzuheizen. Vor der Bühne hatte sich sogar eine kleine Gruppe von Fans versammelt, welche versuchten für die richtige Stimmung zu sorgen. Das luxemburgische Publikum ist jedoch, wie bekannterweise, oft schwer zum Tanz zu motivieren und so blieb die Stimmung während des Openers noch ziemlich ruhig.

Ab jetzt review ich mehr oder weniger regelmäßig CDs, die mir freundlicherweise von der Agentur labile aus Italien zur Verfügung gestellt werden. Es handelt sich wohl vor allem um Sachen aus dem Indie und Postrock-Bereich, wobei das ja auch immer viel heißen kann. Das erste Album, das ich mir vornehme, kommt von der italienischen(!) Band København Store und nennt sich “action, please!”. Merkwürdigerweise steht im Internet, dass es schon letztes Jahr 2008 rausgekommen ist, während auf dem Zettel von labile “Street Date: november 2009″ steht. Kann sein, dass es bisher nur in Italien als CD erhältlich ist.

København Store stammt trotz ihres Namens aus Italien und besteht aus vier Leuten. Allerdings begann die Band als Duo nach einer Reise durch Skandinavien, wodurch sie auch inspiriert worden. Das erklärt auch den für eine italienische Band unüblichen Bandnamen.
“action, please!” ist meistens ein dichter Teppich aus typischen postrock-Gitarrenklängen, vermischt mit elektronischen Sounds, teilweise auch mit Gesang.

Haben sie’s gelesen?

Das “Punk/Hardcore/Underground”-Magazin TRUST (Nr 121/06) ist wie gewohnt überfüllt mit lesenswerten Beiträgen, was es nicht einfacher gestaltet den einen oder anderen Punkt hervorzuheben. Als sehr interessant aber betrachte ich den Leitartikel “I got my power”. Hier geht der Autor auf die Schulbildung ein und was dabei herauskommt wenn diese bereits Jahre hinter einem liegt. Ein Beitrag, der auch unser Hauptthema “Work/Buy/Die” voll trifft. Auszug: “(…) Ist jemandem auch noch aufgefallen, dass es meist immer nur noch um >Arbeit, Arbeit, Arbeit< geht? Als ob Arbeit das wichtigste im Leben wäre, keiner spricht mehr von Arbeit, die Spass macht, oder einen erfüllt (...)" Exzellent auch das Interview mit Aaron Stauffer, das auch einen Blick auf Internas der Band Seaweed (ggr.1988) erlaubt. Dies trifft aber auch auf das Interview mit Dan Fante zu, das Jan Röhlik via Mail ausarbeitete. Dan Fante, ein fünfzigjähriger Schriftsteller aus L.A. ist der Autor von "Chump Change", ein Buch das eine "verkrachte" Existenz beleuchtet und somit natürlich Themen wie Drogen und Alkohol anspricht. Man sollte diesen Beitrag gelesen haben, um zu verstehen weshalb die wichtigsten Wörter im englischen "Fuck it" sind.

This short book seems to be a good summary of all the arguments why people in the West must do everything they can to escape the market fundamentalist thinking, which says that economic growth is the only way of our own development.

The strongest of the arguments seems to be obvious for anybody who still can look idependently on what is going on around in the world. The consumption of unrenewable ressources, such as oil, and the pollution of the renewable ones, such as water, is leading to an ecological catastrophe. And the word « catastrophe » must be understood in a strictly scientifical way, which means that even though at the moment we still don’t see clearly the results of the pollution and lack of ressources (although the war in Iraq should be a clear signal), the catastrophe might be in fact just a decade or two ahead of us! If the western economy will continue to grow only 2% a year, it would mean that it’s going to duplicate itself in the next 35 years! And the bigger the volume of production, the bigger number these 2% represent. So the biggest pollution and waste of resources is still ahead of us!
