Germany is exploring some unprecedented action: on 7th of November, approximately 5000 people participated in direct action trying to stop the CASTOR transportation and German police had hard times remaining in control of happenings.
It all began fairly harmonic. Saturday, the sixth of november, midday. A field in Dannenberg, a small northern german „outback“ village, started transforming into a crowded festival lookalike.
„First estimations come to 30000 participants. But now we are expecting round about 50.000 people gathering in order to show, that they do not agree with governental decisions any longer and that they will start making use of their democtratic rights again.“, Wolfgang Ehmke from the „Bürgerinitiative Umweltschutz Lüchow-Dannenberg (BI)“ stated.
400 buses full of demonstrants and 600 tractors blocking the streets of the surrounding cannot possibly be ignored. (more…)
