Police harrasing activists in Copenhagen

Climate Justice Action, an international coalition of grass-roots organisations, representing the voices of those marginalised from the UN process (indigenous rights activists, farmers movements and environmentalists) reports illegal, “preventive”arrests in Copenhagen.

According to Kamille Hjuler, representing the network: “There is more and more willingness to trample over people’s civil liberties in order to stop
the mass civil disobedience that will take place at the summit on Wednesday. These are yet more attempts by the UN to silence any criticisms of the COP process, whether from inside or outside.”

Copenhagen’s coverage on internet

The activist media are mobilizing the best of their resources to cover the conference in Copenhagen. Since it’s impossible to list all the blog streams, I highlight just a few of them.

Excellent video blogging is being made by The uptake group, which defines itself as „(…) an alternative to mainstream media, but mostly a training resource for your average or not-so-average Joe & Jane.”

On their website http://theuptake.org/ you can get an idea of what’s really going on in Copenhagen following the conference live. In addition, you will find video interviews with activist leaders, as well as twitter conversations.

Call for contributions for Queesch Nr. 22

fr de en pt

New Queesch is on its way!

Piracy will be the leading theme of the new Queesch, nr 22. As usually, we want to give our readers a possibility to keep or get in touch with a variety of ideas, information opinions and analysis approaching the subject from different leftist perspectives.

Who are modern pirates? In whose interests do they act? Are their illegal actions justifiable from the social point of view?

The pirates in Somalia, piracy in Internet, pirate radios, corporate and state-sponsored piracy, modern pirate utopias, pirate women – different contexts, different stories, all important to understand the modern forms of underground politics.

As always, Queesch is open to participation of engaged authors and/or translators. The deadline for texts is 15th of January. We welcome not only texts related with the main topic, but also those expressing the authors’ views on other political/social/cultural issues. For more information, contact us at info@queesch.lu or natalia@queesch.lu You can also find us on facebook and twitter

We are looking forward to hearing from you and wish you already a peaceful and joyful New Year 2010 – the Queesch collective.

Woody Allen devient pragmatique
